What a lot of you don't realize is when a server goes down for any reason, a lot of checks have to be made. These aren't instant checks that take 2 seconds. They have to find the source of the problem to be able to fix it. In Daring's case they are checking his hard drive. Checking a 1TB hard drive can take a while. Especially when there's a time difference and you're waiting on a specific person to come to work.
The best thing ALL of us can do is show a little patience and trust in our host. If you can't even have that, then just log off the computer and go play a sport or a game.
He's as frazzled and frustrated as we are, and complaining to him does nothing but stress him out more. He's been up since the server went down, and most likely will be up until it's restored.
As to data loss, if it happens, it happens. It isn't anyone's fault if that's the case. If you don't have backups of your websites or databases, that's all on you. It isn't Daring's responsibility to make backups for you. Would it be nice? Yes. Is it his job? No.
So all in all, show a little patience please. Yes it sucks, but complaining repeatedly about how long it's taking will only frustrate us all more.
The update I just received is grave. Their checks proved a bad hard drive (nothing Daring or any of us did) so they had to replace it and they are installing the OS on the drive.
As I said it sucks, but there isn't much anyone can do about it. Just be patient, and let's keep the faith.
