Can File Hosts Survive withour premium? How expensive is it to host files?

So i'm wondering if file hosting can survive on just advertisements?

What if you only hosted files for 10 days. Would that help at all?
Do you guys think it's possible to survive without premium membership and on nothing but ads.

you can place like, 5 ads on the download page+solvemedia captcha ads etc.

if the site is small and for specific traffic
then yes advertisements Income is enough
but if the site become widely known
then advertisements will become not enough for pay for servers - hosting etc
and u will need start sell premium accounts

i think if it based on ads only, it will be available to some countries and the other countries that didn't provide suitable profit will be blocked

Of course it's possible. Back when rapidshare was on a de-domain, no file host had any premium / affiliate program. The advertising market may have been better in those years (?), but on the other hand, traffic was much more expensive. Only problem today seems to be: How to get traffic without affiliate system?
