Hello everyone,

My two co-founders and I are developing a file host service. Yes, I know, there are way too many file hosts out there already. But we do believe we're working on something unique and quite different from all the rest. We'll provide more details at a later stage as we get closer to launching.

I'm here today to listen to the community and hear some suggestions you have as to how you imagine an ideal file host.

We started with a $110K budget, most of which I invested myself in the company. Since all 3 of us have extensive technical backgrounds, we didn't need to spend anything on programming and back-end development. By launch day we'll be left with about $80K after spending on our initial infrastructure (servers, bandwidth), design work, office lease, and other misc. expenses.

What should we not forget about? :)

Good luck on the Filehosting thing, please give good support first and show that you are willing to stay as trust-able company and not some scam!

Simple design (make your web fast), Good speed (both upload and download), should have ftp upload, Pay good money (you don't need to be the top)

More file host means more choice, I like it.

1- never cheat affiliates
2- offer at least 250Kbps speed for free users
3- professional design
4- offer good support to your customers & affiliates
5- on-time payments

follow that steps and don't be another filedino.com, storage.to, bitshare.com, etc

good luck

Take a look at Megaupload Refile.net & jakfile for some ideas these 3 host are good they should help you out what you can do with your file host

1. Get a good site design.
2. Implement an efficient file manager ( look at fileserve, megaupload and filesonic).
3. Give preference to free users, give them good download speed. 1-2 mb. Dont make them wait 30 minutes between downloads.
4. Good upload speed from both US and EU servers.

The problem now is, if you want to be successful you'll have to implement an affiliate program as well. Without one, 99% of the uploaders wont use your site. Although without an affiliate program your host will be legally more secure.

Offer a good free service. Popups and advertisements for free users are fine howeaver. Just give them decent speed. I for one will never buy off a host that only gives a couple kb/s to free users.

Also dont make the wait for first file to long, if possible remove it and only have it on subsequent files (or not at all).

Premium users should be able to get atleast 20mbit, anything less and you wont attract alot of people.

Also no file upload storage limitations, its just gay.

1.No Captcha
2.No Wait Times For Free Users
3.Download Speed For free user 1mbps And For Premium 20mbps
4.storage time for free user 180 days
5.All Country Downloads Count
6.Storage Capacity For Free user 750gb Minimum.

No limitations for premium users - premiums should have total access.

No ranks for affiliates - ranks are a great way of cheating affiliates,
and if there are ranks - make the rules about them precise and clear.

No ridiculous download wait times for free users, first download should
be instant and subsequent could depend on file size.

lol the only thing people think about is 'affiliate' and payout rates. :))

You can notice that the file-hosts that do not pay for downloads or whatever are more reliable and fast.

Anyways, good luck with your new business.

Provide good speeds for free users and you guys will rule.

And yeah, pay good money to your affiliates too :D

You guys decided on any name for the filehost? Come up with something unique ;)

Looking forward to it actually, good luck.

I don't think file hosting is a good venture for you guys. Especially if you want to implement an affiliate system that would only drain your money, you could really wash down that 110k easily and not breakeven.

Just think about it first, cause people have been setting up filehosts and they eventually shut down due to limited resources, copyright laws, etc.

But if you do eventually push through with it, I say go for rebills for an affiliate plan. And also listen to your uploaders like if they need ftp upload or a rapidleech plugin.

Paying users should not your #1 thing most paying file host suck really bad warez is not about making $$$

Free reg users
Files stored 120 days without downloads
500gb to 750gb space
300k download
250k upload
pic code so pics can be posted on forums

Premium users
points could be used unlock stuff like audio player & video player for forums files that are 500mb or smaller
2tb space if they need more space they are uploading to much stuff

Files could be public or private
Search engine to search public files that have been uploaded
Private files would be hidden from the search engine
a list of the top 10 downloaded files of the week & 10 top of the month of public files
