This is precisely what is the charm of having a forum, also you will become acquainted with many people from around the world.

Forums are useless if you cant drive traffic and the traffic'd convert signups and become active members. Well blogs are pretty nice to manage as nobody cares about how many people are registered and what is going on. if somebody visits a forum, the first thing he would notice is the list of active members and activity going on and once they see its poor they immediately go away.

Both forum and blogs require a lot of work.

Blogs needs good content writers and it has to be updated often.
Forums on the other hand would be able to rely on the members to post content, but it's a lot of work cleaning the forums. Personally, I rather stick with forums then blogs.
