/me disapproves of this extremely misleading headline.

Bitcoin was *NOT* hacked. Bitcoin is a distributed, decentralised currency system, it cannot be hacked as there is no central location of it.

In this case, an exchange was hacked. You know, they take bitcoins, they give money or vice versa.

I hate misleading headlines used to cause hype. (my hate directed at the source, not the thread poster)

It like using paypal only, sending to other people.
Using it to buy stuff from some sites.
It's not much famous & used though.

And JmZ, I think they meant the software was being hacked & using which some transaction would have been sniffed in between or something. [hmmm] Something like MITM attack. >.>

It's a virtual currency/cash system.

It isn't actual money. When they say $90k or whatever figure they pulled out of their ass, they actually mean it could be worth that if someone exchanged it to money.

It's a very popular currency within illegal/shady niches/groups. Generally people buying stupidly illegal things online use it.

How the hell does BitCoin get hacked? Isn't it imposable to hack BitCoin since it's P2P based?

To say BitCoin got hacked, it's like saying someone hacked BitTorrent.. . it don't even make sense.

read my post possibly...

yudi: no, its simply a terrible choice of headline. the only reason they wrote that is so people think bitcoin got hacked and rush to read about it. in actual fact some exchange got hacked, bitcoin wasn't even touched.

whoever hacked it, hacked the exchange. its nothing to do with any "MITM" attack or whatever.

Possible JmZ, but in this scenario all i could think of was MITM [hmmm]
Network/connection of the exchangers being hacked >.>

snowmanrene gave more feasible headline though ;) (Ignore the bank part)

Where is BitCoin used?

Some VPNS accept it, some hosting companies, some people selling various things sometimes accept it. Anything illegal, like drugs and guns which can be found on the black market using TOR, always use bitcoins because it's an anonymous currency.

This right here.
