Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is due to launch tomorrow, but the game has already been responsible for a bout of real-world aggro, with a violent robbery in France seeing a pair of opportunistic thieves make off with 6,000 copies of the game.

A van delivering the game was hit by a car at the weekend. When the van's occupants got out to check the damage, two assailants attacked them with pepper spray and stole the game-laden truck in the ensuing confusion.

The truck's contained around 6,000 copies of Modern Warfare 3, valued at a whopping £342,000. But while a few copies of the game have recently shown up on ebay for ridiculous four-figure sums, the robbers may have a job shifting quite that many copies of the video game - and certainly not this close to the game's official launch. Not to mention the fact that the sudden appearance of thousands of copies of the game might ring a few alarm bells...

Remarkably enough, this wasn't the only video game heist over the weekend. As The Register reports, a second truck carrying copies of the new Call of Duty game bound for a store in the Yvelines district of Paris was attacked and hijacked by armed robbers.

The total value of goods stolen in both raids is more than three-quarters of a million euro (£650,000).
The real question on many a French gamer's lips now though, will be whether they get their pre-ordered copy on time or not. With this many games stolen, serious questions are raised as to whether everyone will get the copy they reserved.

Set to compete directly with EA's recently released and highly rated Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3 is landing tomorrow, the 8th of November, on PC, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360.

may be Activision planned this attack for sake of publicity to make COD:MW3 more famous XD "may be". You cant rule out any situation :P

they were selling mw3 for £65 today, on nearly every store in the uk, when the release date is tommorow.

And damn who in their right mind would steal tons of copies of mw3
