Are you keeping fewer domains for side projects now?

Verisign raised .COM wholesale prices on November 1.

If you manage several websites, you probably have a few domains sitting around for old ideas, test sites, or projects that never really took off.

I'm curious whether rising renewal costs have changed how you manage those domains. Do you still renew them separately, or are you more likely to build smaller projects under an existing domain?

What makes a separate .COM worth keeping for you?

I only renew a domain if it has real traffic, backlinks or a project I will actually finish. For dead ideas I would rather park them as a subfolder on a domain I already pay for than keep paying renewals on each. Put the keepers on a calendar reminder so they never lapse by accident, and let the empty ones go after a year.
