First, sorry if this doesn't fit here. I thought of posting here but since the answer it's related to the people that offer this services I think it fits here.

Is there any remote desktop that have a videocard so that I can install games and take captures of them? Obviously I don't intend to abuse ie be playing games all day in a remote desktop :)) just to test them. I ask this because in this thread I was told that remote desktops came without GPU so I wouldn't be able to play games but if so how can people take captures of movies? Is it because movies are ok using the onboard graphic card?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm not sure

You can get solutions like this.

You would need 10-30 MS to be able to get around 20FPS. As this is possible but maybe a bit slower.

You need a good uplink. I've seen these offers before somewhere not sure. I believe you can get an Nvida testla your looking at around 1-2K on them cards.

I can have a look for you. you would need KVM to be able to take advantage of this. Need an HDMI one.

Only if i can be arsed. :)

Otherwise you can save up for a decent computer and download the games maybe?

CyberPunk movies screenshots are easy to take as there are lot of softwares like Thumbnail Me etc... Taking game's screenshots is a bit too much i feel :P

You'll probably need a to order custom dedi, I doubt that anybody will let you share a server with other users and run games on it.

Sorry for my noobishness in this subject but I didn't understand half of what you told me >_< What do you mean by '10-30 MS to be able to get around 20FPS' (I understand FPS=frames per second but 10-30 MS<--- what's that??)

Concerning KVM and HDMI I searched in wikipedia and will read about them later. Now I'm busy but I will PM you my messenger and if you can we can chat next friday.

And my computer is pretty good even though it can't run the latest games. However the main reason is download speed ;) : in a remote desktop I can download a dvd in 5 minutes whereas with my 1Mbit/s (I download at 106 KB/s) It takes me 12 hours >.< and nowadays most games weigh 7 GB or more so thats 24 hours >.< >.< . I guess that pro uploaders aren't taking screenshots from their home but from a rdp.

Yep I suppose so also. But by taking a screenshot I mean just doing ctrl+alt+print (sorry for my noobishness again I never used a rdp before, is it possible to take screen captures isn't it? Or we can only use the mouse? If a rdp is managed as a virtual machine, well, in a VM I can take screen captures and they are stored in the clipboard of the host OS)

I know but as I said before it is just to take screen captures. Maybe it would demand too much from the server but it would be five minutes only:((

1. playing games on remote will lag, you will have high ping i think.
2. if you want to start a gameserver, then you don't need a graphic card.

Pro uploaders get them from google :|.

:D OK but who uploaded that screenshot for the first time? And those that post screenshots installing the game and all that?

I don't want to start a gameserver, just to download an ISO, mount it with daemon tools, install the game taking screenshots of the process, run the game, take a screenshot and exit...Just that. Then I use paint to save the screenshot as a jpg.

1. Guy wants to take screencaps of installation of teh game, so HE will know that game that he post does work, and can freely upload it among first, and get more views, $$, rating, whatever. All that with best uploading speed (100/1000mbps) Just like Toothless does ;) right?

2. @CyberPunk: dedi's have integrated video solution, but not gaming one. You can take screencaps of video without using DirectX. Lot different from what you want.

hmm... why don't you do that just local? :S wouldn't it be easier? or is it because of the slow local connection?

LOL man, that's a lot of crap to do for just a couple of screenshots, you can find images of games long before they're released on gaming sites like IGN. Unless you want unique screenshots for some other purpose.

Difference between having IGN screenshots and own desktop with all icons there, is like 10K more replies and downloads xD

That is the whole point of his idea

You understood what I want ;) I will PM you also. So are you saying that there's no way of taking screencaps of a video game without using DirectX? If so, I would simply need to install DirectX on the remote desktop right? I forgot to mention that I saw an offer where I got full access to a remote desktop (I can use all the resources as it is 1 server = 1 user) So if I install DirectX would I be able to play and take screenshots even though it hasn't got a GPU?

By the way who's Toothless? I searched from him in the forum but didn't find him, even deselecting exact name.

As cvrle77 said I want to take unique screenshots of the games so that I can watermark them and give more trust to downloaders ;)

lol ull have bad looking screenshots, not to mention not all the games will run, unless you have a very expensive gfx card on the server. You'll end up spending a lot of money for a couple screenshots? :|

ok sry CyberPunk74689 didn't saw that one. :P then it's all clear. may i know why you need the screenshots? i think that it would be easier to seach google for screenshots. :)

Problem in gamez are NUKED releases, not teh same as moviez. In a movie u can see teh screenshots, real ones. Lots of releases from good names ended up as total waste of bandwidth, for downloaders, and since RS is charging for BW, they go with teh one uploaders, that tested games by themselves.

I know exactly what u want, once i had teh same idea, and ended up in wasting lots of time searching for it.
