1. Mayan Calendar
They randomly died and did not predict when it would happen, why should we trust them now?.

2. Sun Storms
Could be possible but the ozone layer would block most of this.

3. The Atom Smasher
They make dark matter. Peices of the universe, they've already tried.

4. The Bible says...
The bible is written by Jews.

5. Super Volcano
A volcano can't get big enough to destroy us all

6. The Physicists
Need a therapist.

In watching the news for the last few weeks I started thinking about how many times "The world is going to end" i can remember since I've been old enough to be paranoid. Here are all the world-ending scenarios I can recall:

  • 1970's - The ozone layer was disintegrating - we were all going to die of skin cancer or be forced to live in underground cities
  • Planetary alignment around 1981 or 1982 - All the planets were going to be in a once-every-xx-year alignment and the gravitational title forces were going to rip the planet to shreds (this was really big..we were doomed!)
  • Global starvation - in the 1980s many scientists were predicting global planetary starvation based on population growth trends
  • Nuclear winter - also in the 1980's - the planet would be shrouded in smoke and ash after the looming global thermonuclear war causing worldwide "Global Cooling" - all vegetation and animal life would die.
  • Nostradamus said "fire from the sky" would bring an end to us all in August 1999
  • Y2K - worldwide computer failure based on the Y2K bug, civilization would fall, anarchy in the streets, cats & dogs sleeping together.
  • Global Warming - "The Earth Has a Fever"! If we don't do something now, all hell be breaking loose
  • 2009 - Total economic breakdown starting in the you.S. and bringing the entire global economic system with it.
  • 2012 - The Mayans decided that it didnt make any sense to draw-out their calendars any further then the Winter Solstice 2012, so the world must end on that day
Can you remember any other "end of the world?" or doomsdays - post what comes to mind or whatever you can remember (not what you can find in Google).. I want to make sure i dont miss the end of the world!

We have survived way too much, and for way too long of a time to be scared of this bullshit. During the time of the super volcanoes and the array of asteroids that hit us, organisms have survived and will continue to do so.

It is possible and not that world might end in 2012, or tomorrow, or in future, or maybe not...

The Bible says...
No,Bible doesn't say that world ends in 2012(i don't know what Bible you've read), before you say something stupid like that make sure you read Bible.

Maybe they didn't had time to finish their calendar, or maybe it wasn't translated correctly.

The Physicists

It's a probability... nothing is accurate (you can use math to check what mightl be the next winning numbers on a guessing game such as 6/49...)

The other things such as Super Volcano, Slip-Slop-Slap-BANG!, etc can occure any time, not only in 2012.
 
The world government will be instituted in 2012, when Obama's period ends.

Then yes you can say the world will end, because there is a huge depopulation policy ready to be unleashed upon the world. The new world order will first depopulate the earth.

I agree with you, however there are certain happenings scientifically predicted for that year as well. This has nothing to do with any religion. For example there are proven solar flames to arise during that time, wich are much larger than normal.

I hate to see people quoting the Maya calendar, because it is not their calendar. The maya's, next to the aztecs, did NOT build those great buildings. Neither did they invent their knowledge all of a sudden.
As they themselves also stated, when they arrived in the America's, those great buildings were allready there. As was the city of Machu Picchu in Peru. The "city of the gods" was allready there.
No one knows who did build the great buildings all around the world. No one. Anyone who states he knows, does not know about the great findings combined with these archeological findings.

How many of you know that ancient people created maps of the world, some of them used to create the traveller map of Piri Reis?
That map contains an accurate map of Antarctica, not as it looks today, but as it actually looks like UNDERNEATH THE ICE. We did not knew this map was correct untill the late 80s, when we started mapping Antartica ourselves using seismic measurements.

It is a proven scientific fact that a civilization existed on this planet, far before any of our known history. This civilization was as advanced as our own, or even more advanced.

Maybe it seems far fetched to you, but it IS indeed possible that this older civilization left behind SCIENTIFIC predictions of certain things. Not only did they leave behind a calendar wich was more accurate than our own, they also used mathematics where we still base upon.
