So yeah as the title say's, are you just in it for the money or for a hobby?

Personally i'm the later one, couldn't care about making money, selling ads etc.

When I had my forum I didn't care about getting money, if we did it was a bonus. As for now it's kinda both/the same. As I just upload now yeah it's a hobby but I also wouldn't mind making a bit of money to keep a few things online going.

for me its a hobby but yeah making money helps alot but all i make goes back into my sites somehow :)

I like these two replies.

It's the money grabbers i dislike lol.

( waits to get flamed for saying that now LOL )

Thats the thing I don't get, Why are people in it for the money as I don't think I've met anyone who runs a warez site that has made money, well made any respectable amount of money from a warez site.

well i admit i made around $40 with warezwitch but that payed the server fees for 2 months :)

I am also as a hobby, I was first an uploader and now became a webmaster, the money I make I use them to evolve the websites, I do not keep them for me, I am making the site better and more good :)

Voted other.

I'm definitely not in it for the money. Infact I tend to dislike people trying to make money out of warez (if its pure profit, donations/ads to cover hosting bills is OK). I guess being a webmaster is a hobby but in the first place (for me) its a good gateway for another hobby, programming.

- hobby : YES, but not too much

Be Upmonster / Uploader for :
- Money : Yes
Reason : * i use the money i got for paid the my own forum cost, paid
the seedbox and also help donate to my friend that ill now.
- hobby : NO at all
- But i like to help people from my link.. :) so if i can have more time earn i will add more mirror link

doing warez for money Bad ? no isnt :P if you use for good propose i think its ok. "Watch Robinhood Movie lol"

I'm "in it" because I like coding and know basically every webmaster. Money is just an extra which ill use for non-warez projects in future.

Just to note though, unfortunately the majority of new webmasters are in it for the money (for various reasons, which im sure the older webmasters know of). They throw up a 5 minute DDL, slap affiliate links all over it, join an autosubmitter and leave it.

yea that comment is 120% true. They only want a website to make a profit which is probably the reason why it usually fails.

For me its a hobby. The money we get for vip and donations cover our server costs. Recently our vb license was about to expire so we added text links to cover it. The extra $ will go into things for the site.

I on the other hand stopped making warez sites and started to work on my legal forum.. I only have 1 forum now, not 5, 1. That is the only way to go... And now its doing better than all of my other forums combined. Its called focus, learn it.

Yeah In a certain way there is money involved but for me i use it only to pay my server costs and improvement of my server for better experience for the users n my site. not for any of my personal use I do it only as a hobby :D

Well, not in it too mcuh for the money.
In fact, when i first started two years ago, i spent well over $1000 on hosting, software, etc. just for my warez site. Donations were never enough to cover it and I didn't run ads at all. So it was just a hobby.
Now however with my Hosting Cost in the $200+/pm, and me without a Job. Ads are a must. I used most of the money for Hosting and other site needs.
The rest of the money are for kept in savings just encase of an emergency.
Occasionally though, I buy some stuff on ebay, but usually they're just books and stuff for my studies.

I think we all start out as a hobby, many n00bs starting out quickly die off... those that can maintain the time and server/hosting costs etc remain, but are still prone to things like hacking/exploits in scripts/ddos attacks.. for such things the more experienced guys will take steps to prevent, but it also requires more time and money. The big guy's in the scene are those who have stuck around for a long time -- and they need to make some money to stay up, or they wouldn't be here.

I started out doing this as a hobby/leisure activity 'cuz it was cool. Eventually you figure out how to make a couple bucks so you do it. I hate people who load their sites with ads/popups in non-surfer friendly websites, even worse -- those who make money via programs that install scripts, spyware, trojans or viruses on your browser or computer etc.

I vote "Other" -- both, hobby and money.

Thats the thing I don't get, Why are people in it for the money as I don't think I've met anyone who runs a warez site that has made money, well made any respectable amount of money from a warez site.
