Hey guys i want to start selling hosting and i went on worldstream and i saw a pretty good plan :

  • Intel Core i7 920
  • 8192 MB DDR3 RAM
  • 500 GB 7.200 RPM
  • 2000 GB Traffic p/m

For 111 euro which is like 155 usd i was wondering if i get this would it be a good server? and would it protected against ddos and other attacks thanks. And what would i need to start selling hosting and how many sites could this hold? Thanks.

For shared hosting, 2x Quad Xeon are much better than i7. Also WorldStream doesn't offer any hardware protection against DDoS, you need to install a software firewall, as long attack are not too huge, you should not have problem.

dont use i7 there is some issue with linux kernel and i7 on CentOS 5.3 . also the same config with 2x750 hdd can be obtained at hetzner.de . there support is superb fast, but if u are planning to use centos 5.3 there u will suffer some strange issues

You cannot count how many account max per servers, this depend on many fact on your configuration/optimization and site itself. you can overload your servers with only one site on it.

carnage : then r u planning to buy RHEL5 indorder to use with WHM/CPANEL . only CentOS and RHEL is supported by WHM/CPANEL . with out WHM/CPANEL a shared hosting is waste. Directadmin is not very much good in my option

That's a good server.

Thats from worldstream.nl.

Not professional, as i7 is tripple channel memory. therefore it needs to be sold as 3, 6, 9 or 12GB.. although they offer 8GB it will only use 6GB Ram.

To me, it looks unprofessional that they are not even specing their servers right.

Also they spelt bandwdith wrong

Yes, the i7 requires triple channel memory, but there isn't really much of a difference performance-wise between 6gb (triple channel) and 8gb (dual channel), because most software can not fully utilize triple channel ram yet. You will be able to use the full 8GB of ram but in dual channel mode.

And I think WS just advertises 4, 8, and 12 because some people would be like "wtf you only get 6gb of ram now and not 8" but i'm sure if you contacted worldstream they will give you a custom setup. My server is custom and i got a good deal on it too :D.

Nick: Another good point. I don't see who takes their servers :P

People who want brand new hardware on a fast netherlands network with friendly staff/customer support at reasonable price ;).

Well, Intel i7 Core has 6 Cores & 1 Main Central Heavy Duty Core.
Its the most advanced Core till date developed.

Even I'm waiting to upgrade my server to Intel i7 :D
