The "Unofficial" WJunction IRC Channel

I think having an IRC Channel for this site would be beneficial.

IRC Channel will allow us to group together all the webmasters. Also it is much better than a "shoutbox" because you can IDLE a lot more efficiently. And set up groups much like admins/gmods on a forum. Also it is easier to talk because you get a full screen of a chatwindow. And a lot more functionality out of it.

This can be used as a quick resource to communicate between webmasters at any given time (given they are online at that moment).

Hello Golden Falcon,

To be honest, I prefer shoutboxes they do the same thing as an IRC but with a lot less features. I mean if it was an online IRC that would be good. But who's going to set it up? I mean UltimA himself is a busy guy (with sites and new projects etc). So if everyone agrees with this then I suggest you maybe make one for wJunction? Would be better b/c if we wanted an admin make we would have to wait a long time, trust me!

You don't have to set up your own server to use an IRC.

You can use public IRC Servers like EFNet. All you need to do is Register a Channel there.

All in all, it only takes 5 minutes to set up an irc channel on a public server.

i luv IRC. only problem is that everyone would need to install a client and it is to much of a bother. Plus, since maybe only half of the active members are familiar with it, then we would hav like no IRC users. I think we should wait till we have enough willing members, and maybe somebody should make a tut for getting started with IRC

Well these days there are many alternatives to "Official Clients"

You can get a firefox addon called ChatZilla that logs into IRCs. You can get JAVA Web Apps like Mebbit that you can EMBED into the forums itself.

After connecting to the channel there are no need to be familiar with anything (unless you are operating the channel that is)

It takes about two seconds to make a channel on any public server, so just make one and see if you can get people join. The staff doesn't have to make it.

Good point. Made one on my server.

Server: irc.nitroroms.com
Channel: #WJunction
Full Link: irc://irc.nitroroms.com/WJunction
JAVA Chat: http://widget.mibbit.com/?settings=5e9b87c5eaa0885d17797d7a32fbf882&server=irc.nitroroms.com&channel=%23WJunction

Offcourse I won't be on it 24/7. So obviously it will be empty most of the time until we get more people. But for people who use IRC a lot and have a client. Add that server/channel to Auto-Join on startup. So we can build a member base. People who don't have a client can open a tab in their browsers and use the JAVA Chat, but be careful! If you close the browser you will close the chat!

Thanks :) we are getting a good following for this.

To all who are joining scan your AIM/MSN Lists for any webmasters/coders/scripters/gfx designers/hosters and even anyone.

You don't have to talk, you can just idle :)
