We all know service varies from host to host but I'd like to take some time and break down some tips I use when shopping for hosting/servers. I can offer you some good information for finding a better server and hopefully some of you helpful people will contribute to this thread in hopes of helping other members out while they shop for hosting.

1. pay a little more, dont try to save that extra 1 or 2$ a month. if your paying less then 5$ a month your probably on an oversold server. Its simple math, if its 1.99$ a month everyone will buy it, therefore a million people will be hosting on the same servers which bring downtimes and database errors and slow loading times etc. which no one wants.

2. Any host with a .info domain or .info NS DONT GO WITH :P .info's are cheap and crappy extensions most can either be gotten for free or something like 1.99$ a year. The thing I dont like about them is it shows they are cheap and like to scrape pennies, i dont want a server from someone who wont shell out 5 more bucks a year for a decent .com domain. In my eyes if your a penny pincher for something like that, then you probably are selling me a server off you 5.99$ a month unlimited reseller plan lmao which brings me to my next reason.

3. Dont, and I'll repeat that. DONT fall for UNLIMITED this or UNMETERED that lol theres no such thing. Truly and undoubtingly there is absolutely NO SUCH THING as ulimited hd space, or id be able to go out to the local computer parts store and pick up a Western Digital Billion GB HD for my desktop. On the same note, theres no such thing as UNMETERED bandwitdth. What you can bring from a host that sells an unlimited or unmetered package is that they definitley oversell theyre servers and that you should steer clear from them.

4. Dont believe on-site testimonials, WE WRITE THEM OURSELVES. *(Not all hosts write theyre own, this statement is completely opinionated and may not be true for all hosts.)

5. Dont believe everything you read on the net as straight fact these are my opinions and are not those of wjunction or anyone else. Ive followed those statements and have never had any issues with servers or hosting packages. I believe if you follow them you too will avoid many issues such as downtime or on-server problems that everyone is always complaining about.

If you have any opinions on what to keep in mind when purchasing servers/hosting, post here so we can help each other out.

cheers

Tips from Storming :P
----------------------------

When looking at a web host be sure to check their support ticket times if they reply within hours or dont reply at all it proves the support it not good.

Eye catching...
Well i see a lot of people just buying a server, getting a domain and using some shitty template monster design it shows me me they do not put much effort into it which would instantly turn me away as if they do not put much effort into there site, are they goign with there clients?....

Be sure if you are looking at a certain web host to ask them lots of questions but one thing ALOT do bullshit you. but how are you supposed to know? a good little trick i used to do was use open a support ticket before ordering, ask the server specs and how many clients per server. if they say 50 or something... then use a proxy make another account a coulple of hours after and ask again see if they slipp up ;)

Ill post a few more later.

Also note on the unmetred Bandwidth... they normaly CAP it at around 5tb depending if you are purchasing servers or shared hosting.

But dont fall for the "unlimted" in shared hosting or anything!

thanks all, and yes storming i was refering to shared unmetered and unlimited. they are all a farse.

anyone else care to list some helpful tips to add to those ive shared?

WE WRITE THEM OURSELVES.
Did he just admit to...omg....OMG. I guess we can read this thread anymore...how do we know if its true...what are we being lured into.

they are all a farse.

DONT fall for UNLIMITED this or UNMETERED that lol theres no such thing.

Before everyone goes crazy...its simple wording. A host can decide not to limit usage...but everyone should know that is a red flag...so stay away.

If you see UNLIMITED...run like hell and never stop!

Anyway good information Dotcom. :)

dot you are perfectly correct.. almost every site has its own testi..!!

how can one believe that its true..??

n d cheapest is d easiest is the worst..!!

n i do agree that there's no such thing like unmetered or unlimited..!!

thanks for d info n share bro..!!

no offence but if unmetered did exist then ppl wudnt need to get dedi or vps...they cud just buy hosting at crappy host that says unmetered this and unmetered that but actually gives a crappy server where 1000s of sites are hosted and which is slow as hellB-)

thank you kenshin, and shift thanks also for your opinions. wish youd take the thread more serious and add in some of your own views but a fail pic and a cheap laugh is all good with me.

cheers

I pay $0 a month for a unmetered, VPS. I am one of 3 sites on the server and so far its pwnage. :)

well I should have changed my first post but its still partially true that statement about unmetered. they will cap you at a certain gb so its still not unmetered but with different hosts its a different limit so its tough to voice an opinion on that. BUT its still not unmetered if theres a limit.

oh and chri5 a quick revers ip lookup of gra-fix.net shows 6 sites on the same server

and 7 for thinkbigdesigns.org
http://www.imgcentre.com/images/reversoyo1495742545.png
the second one includes a subdomain'ed web radio

I have a dedi and a vps and i can tell u now unlimited for b/w and space will not be in my plans

Max server load i will allow is 3.50 and will stop hosting sites on it when i get down to 512mb free of 4gb.

I monitior both real close.

oh and i only allow 4 resellers per server.

changed my statement, as it was not meant to offend you. ive heard great things about your host and im sure yours arnt, some ive seen on several different hosts sites are and the owners have talked about it so thats why i added that bit in there.
any more opinons?

cheers

@dotcom
I own krisproductions.****** as well.
6 sites aint that bad, especial when they are all pretty small sites.

Thanks for the tips. But the .info domain cost $1.99 only for the first year, after that they will charge you the regular price that is $10 or $11.
