shared hosting can usually host wordpress, usually they have some script auto installer inside hosting control panel where one can install wordpress

Dedicated Wordpress hosting comes usually with higher resources and should be faster than regular hosting with the wordpress hosting.

Yes, both are same. But if anyone is providing special wordpress hosting then the server should be optimize accordingly and you may find great tools as well to play around.

Most of the shared hosting provider provide one click installer to install wordpress and other CMS as well.

I have seen also some companies like everest.net can offer you complete cloud computing solution designed for the wordpress. In my opinion that is really great option to start with.

Normal shared hosting is OK until you get to a certain number of visitors a day, where the resources required to keep your site up are more than a shared host is willing to give you for the standard outlay.
There are a number of options when you outgrow standard shared hosting.
1. Find a web host that uses LiteSpeed Webserver, they have a special plugin that works with WordPress and the WebServer directly. It's the fastest caching plugin our there!
2. You could upgrade to a VPS with enough resources, but depending on your experience with system admin this might not be a good move.
3. Better than a VPS, you could look for a host which provides Elastic-Sites (Elastic Sites - Home). These are shared hosting accounts that give each user dedicated resources like a VPS, but a C'Panel like shared hosting. Ideally, an ElasticSites provider with LiteSpeed would be the best.

Yes! Both are same hosting services, In shared hosting you can install or use for server to host any type of site like wordpress, joomla, magento, etc. In wordpress hosting you can only use the host for wordpress sites or blogs..
