Why do you hate the iphone so much ?

The iPhone is a great phone - I have one myself.
Recently bought it a few weeks after it became available on the Verizon network (I refuse to use AT&T, it's very slow where I live).

But before I bought the iPhone I was looking into Android phones, which I find the iPhones #1 competitor.

actually I love it, and I don´t know anybody who hates it :P it is an awesome phone, with lots of apps and features ;)

I hate it because its too restricted. I hate the fact that you have to go wayyy out of your way to "unlock" it, and even when it is, its still kind of a fagey device.

AFAIK with Android phones, you dont need to do any of the BS unlocking procedures you have to go through with the iPhone/iTouch, and that they ultimately leave it up to the end user what they want to do.

The Android argument is indeed an interesting one. But, how much do you really need to do on your phone? For instance, is playing 720p .MKV movies on an after market player really that much of a necessity? Don't get me wrong, I see many areas where Apple could improve simply by being a little more "open market" orientated. I have an iPad and I wish at times I was able to do some things that I am not able to do (such as FTP into a server, edit a file, upload it again... Is this possible in HoneyComb BTW?) but for what I got it for, I am happy with it for now. It was cheaper than all competitors too.

But, as history in economics has shown us... They won't bother changing their "communist" way until they really have to. And considering APPL is currently valued at a little over $300B USD. Even after their recent NASDAQ 100 weighting change, which a few predicted would spark minor sell offs. Google is $180B USD. I don't think that change is coming any time soon. I think they're the second most valuable company in the world by market capital except for ExxonMobile? Don't quote me on that.

eLight, you're wrong. Your ipad can go to FTP and edit a server. There is even a solusvm app to manage your vm. There is also an app for cpanel and whm.

If you jailbreak your iPhone, you can do EVERYTHING with it. At one point, the iPhone was the most advanced shit. Now, iPhone is trying to catch up with everyone else. It's because they only release one phone a year. While their competitors, RIM and Android have many models.

The latest "advanced" iPhone was the 3gs when it was the market leader. The iPhone 4 only sold cause it was an iPhone.

I personally am using an iPhone 3g (yes I know it's old) and sometimes I just feel like smashing it. The lag is awful, I got over 10k messages so whenever I load a conversation, it lags like fuck. Apple need to work hard on their hardware if they wanna stay on top otherwise iPhone 5 could be their last iPhone. Sucks that it would be releasing in Sep instead of June.

@eLight

You said "well how much do you need to do on your phone?", the iPhone has MILLIONS of apps.. But if you said "how much do you need to do on your phone", why didnt you just get a regular boring ass cellphone instead?

It's kinda like having a car that goes 200Mph.. Chances are you'll never need to go that fast, but its still nice having that option.

That one actually looks quite nice IYD.

Chris: True, I completely agree. I just think it'll be some time before we start seeing more freedom. I mean crap, their default browser (Safari) sucks pretty hard on both the iPad and iPhone.

Yup and it has 1337 features for an ipad (read the ipad-enhanced shit).

See what I mean, it has an app for everything, if it's not in the appstore, you can probably find it in Cydia.

IMO - Apple has really good style, and they channeled all of their products to the general public, and not soo much towards peeps like us that know a lot about electronics (well.. most of us).
So I think that all of their iDevices are good, but I guess the ultimate answer is that its not that they suck.. its just that they werent really "meant" for people like us?

Edit: ^So thats my final answer to this thread, lol
