mybb is very good and also quite user friendly, so would recommend that over phpbb, though at the end its always your choice and you can see the demo of both forums and see which one suits your needs, still would recommend mybb.
look if you know script very well thn you will go with phpbb very good friendly 
but if u want more features thn go with mybb instead of phpbb
If you want to run your website smoothly thn go with phpbb phpbb far better thn mybb in the matter of search engines if you want very fastly everything if you are new and u dont know how to get traffic thn i will say just go with phpbb post good articles add some meta tags add some keywords and see good result
