Not sure about the specs but I suggested Min u should get is a VPS but I recommend a Dedicated Server. If you use a VPS get 1 with alot of space. Also should have atleast 100mbit

min specs you need is a dedicated server.

if you are serious about it, get a vps for the front-end and develop your own script. have the script store all the files on remote dedicated servers with at least a 100megabit uplink.

doing that will ensure good speed on the site and downloading/uploading meaning people will actually be interested in using the site. but its not cheap and will have to offer some type of incentive i.e. remote uploading or a rewards scheme....or both.

be willing to spend a few hundred $$ per month for the server and a few hundred $$ developing the script....like i said, its not cheap.

Yeh im serious bout it..and yes im gonna put the reward system in it.

btw

8 gb ram
100 mbps port
1.25 tb space
quad core
2.0 Ghz
unlimited bandwidth

Will this be enough?

yh, but get a vps to start with for the front end. make sure you store all files remotely from the start. it will help a LOT with expansion and ensure the quality doesnt decrease as you get bigger.

No i meant if i dont use vps for the front end and use dedicated server from the start...will this affect the site ?

it wont at the start because you will have few users but its good for when you start to expand. you dont want users complaining about speed when it starts to get popular because you crammed everything in 1 server.

also make sure you have a good uplink, at least a 1gbit line.

I don't see how you could run a decent file hosting site on anything other than a multiple server setup with at least a gigabit line, i mean your not gonna get anyone using you if you can't guarantee decent download/upload speeds that are consistant. I run a streaming porn site off one server at the moment and with barely 10k/day it uses 1tb/day bandwidth and gets hammered, so imagine what a file hosting site will be like.
