Hello,

I wanted to ask what exactly is a CDN? I just know its a content delivery network.

If i am not wrong on my own words it is just basically a network where you can upload your pictures which are multiplied to many servers, thus when you add that image on your site, the person accessing the site will be able to load the image located in the nearest server to him/her thus making the website load faster.

Well can i make my own CDN? If not is there a free version available.

Also if there is a free version available how do i have to use it?

Please assist.

Thanks & Regards

Even I had the same query like yours. I never got into much details about this. If someone can help out it would be really great.

Actually, CDN is a service.

There is a free CDN service, http://www.coralcdn.org/ but they suck.

Using a CDN saves your hosting bandwidth and provides faster loading of your webpage by serving the images through a network having highspeed lines.

MaxCDN is one of the best as well as one of the cheapest CDN providers around.

Basically using CDN makes your site load faster to users all around the world, not just those who are located close to your webhost server location since instead of a single central server, the javascript, CSS and images that your site loads when its loaded up is distributed over various servers all around the globe. This also reduces your site's bandwidth consumption.

But CDN doesn't come as cheap as webhosting. You will only want to use CDN if you have a high traffic site to make it worth the money.

I don't knw much and would appreciate if sm1 can elaborate in detail (yes, i knw how to google but sm1 explaining here particularly the questions askd by Sponge will b helpful)

Also, I guess we can only store static files like images etc on CDN so it can only improve the performance in parts & not in full? Wat u think wil b best advantage of using CDN ?

Wow great posts but seems preety expensive.

I guess will stay with the current without a CDN will get a CDN once the site becomes bigger :)

Just a question can one use a CDN for many websites therefore can i sell CDN if i buy a CDN and thus can be used by many?

Thanks

you can use it on multiple sites, but regarding reselling, many wont allow the users to sell their bandwidth on a commercial scale, it depends on their TOS.
