UltratechHost - Not being helpful!

Should I be refunded..?

Hey guys,

I ordered a VPS from UltratechHost 2 days back for encoding.

I recieved the VPS the same day but avisynth won't work on it.

I tried resolving the issue with help of WJ members ...

But nothing worked out. :(

So I opened a ticket asking for help from UltratechHost support team.

But they just said that since this is unmanaged VPS they can't do anything about software issues.

So I asked them to install a 32-bit OS for me, as I could see that being the only thing left to be tried.
But they can't do that too.

So I asked them for refund. But they refused saying there is no refund policy for unmanaged VPS.

I even told them they could keep the share for 2 days and refund me the rest. But again they refused.:'(

Now, I just wanna ask...am I wrong here..?
What should I do...just forget this as bad business..?

This when I had told them before buying that I needed it for encoding.
I also told them that I'm new to unmanaged services and Sun!l promised to help out.

well i personally think that it may be unmanaged service but as a buisness which is suposed to thrive on customer service then there would be a certain amount of common courtesy to help in some way.........if they want to keep you buying with them then you would have thought there would be a bit more help......

but not all buisness are like that and some are so so strict when it comes to the unmanaged part

i wouldnt call them a bad buisness though as i say this dealing with it or not is there decision but if he promised to help ya then yes i would say its a bad buisness then
 
Thanks priviet ... all I'm asking them is to either help me make it work or refund me.
But they don't seem to understand that this is no use to me without avisynth working.
 
yeah i know.......

servedome were best for me always...........they dont actually say managed or unmanaged service because there thinking is that its no use to them if a customer cant get something working as thats one customer lost.......

but as i said customer service varies from site to site it just depends on how leniant the staff are
 
First of all most businesses that are legit and have a great reputation usually offer money back guaranteed if the customer is not satisfied.
Although a server may state that it may be unmanaged the actual owners do have the responsibility to take care of things the actual client cannot do themselves. Things such as formatting the entire system, hard forced reboots, hardware issues, etc. What is customer support for if they don't help with technical issues beyond the control of the client? The support staff should also be able to determine if certain things work or not if the client asked ahead of time. Something along the lines of, "Sorry that is not compatible, but if you wish you can continue with your purchase, but support will not be provided." Not, "Yes, go with it."

Managed servers usually cost around an additional $60-70 a month (reputable companies that I know of). This is because they install, support, every single little detail the client may need.

There's a difference between unmanaged and managed. Having complete lack of support is unethical.
 
i understand theres obviously a limit to the amount of support they give on unmanaged but surely if they want to keep the customers custom then surely they will try and offer some help

also if Sun!l promised to help and isnt then thats wrong
 
They provide the server, unmanaged. It's not their fault you can't get it working. It's no different to any other windows machine, and avisynth doesn't need any hardware support. There's no reason it shouldn't work other than misconfiguration.

Try asking on the avisynth forum rather than complaining about it here.

I already registered there [on doom9] for this ...I've been googling for 2 days...tried everything but when nothing's worked only then I asked them for help.
 
Its normal that they dont provide refunds on unmanaged vps, and unmanaged service means that they will only reinstall the vps for you nothing more. Get managed service and they will install everything they may also clean your ass.
Thats the difference.
 
i know itd probablly be better to get managed but the fact is like i said at servedome.......support is provided as common courtesy as they know if the user cant fix the issue then they lose a customer.........i wouldnt expect a host to be around 24/7 if i bought a unmanaged but it wont kill em to help in some way ....especially as he promised

Hmm i dont think so there any problem here.

As people buying unmanaged vps's should know how to work with a vps at the first place if not ask the hosting company and talk to them if they can install for you the control panel if not, ask them for management fee's that would be the best way.

If you do not want to pay for the management fee's i suggest keep to shared hosting or any other semi-dedicated hosting.

Hmmm then they should re-install for you without any issues... Just wait they will do it may be they are not online right now.
