Shared vs vps vs dedicated hosting

Can someone define these three....and what is the different between these..?

vps ==> 4-20 clients using single server
dedicated ==> 1 client ( that's u only) on single server

Wrong.

Shared and VPS are still in a shared envoirement. You "share" the resources with other clients on the server.

A dedicated server provides guaranteed resources, and there is only one user, you.
Same for Xen dedicated systems.

@l0calh0st, we can define same things in many ways. only thing needed is it should be related and somewhat understandable by others.

What is google.com ?

1 ==> its a website
2==> its a search engine
3==> its a domain name of Google Inc.

Now tell me whats right answer ?

shared : u dont get any root access and all to reinstall OS etc .. u share resources .. u simply get a Cpanel installed and no other custom scripts can be installed on it ..

VPS : its also shared as already told above .. but u get root access and u can install OS and customs scripts ...

Dedicated : Single user everything yours :D

still shared & vps are not the same... clients on vps cant bombard the resources of the server if limits were set...but on shared..it is subjected to unequal usage ..sometimes over usage by some clients...esp cpu ram..viz..

I was using hostgator india, whenever i tried to upload huge no. Of files(lets say 5000+) at one time via ftp it started saying connection delayed for x seconds. Was irritated by it and left hostgator india. Can anyone tell why was that delay coming?
