RS, Premium Pts use to change new accoount, What's the free points for?

I've accumulated lots of Free Rapid points and some Premium points, but I realise that when I tried exchanging for new 1 Month account, Premium Points are deducted. So what's the purpose of Free Points?

Free points can only be used to extend your current premium account only.

i have over 50k in one of my collectors account .... i am repeatedly mailing rs to add feature to convert free points to premium points or the convert collectors account can be converted into premium account using the free points... :D

Yup, the free points are for extending your premium account or for ordering some items on their 'Rewards' page. Pretty useless to me.
