 I recently acquired an unmanaged VPS from RamNode. They don't provide "nameservers for DNS" but I got 1 IPV4 and 16 IPV6.

I installed webmin on the vps. My question is do I have to setup "BIND DNS". I really don't understand much of this. I'm new to managing a VPS and I want to learn. For now what I do is I go to my domains at namecheap and edit the records so my domains point to my vps' IP. On webmin I create apache virtual host for each domain. It works. So my question is "Do I need to setup nameservers?" and "What are they for?"

Extra note:
I used namecheap's "nameserver registration" just in case. But I'm not using them. I created ns1.mydomain.com -> Server IP and ns2.mydomain.com -> Server IP. These two nameservers point to the same IPV4 since I only got 1 from Ramnode.

Yes, you need to set up name servers to point to your VPS IP, so your private name servers should look like this:

NS1.yourdomain.com - IPV4
NS2.yourdomain.com - IPV4

So yes, both private name servers to same IP (on your domain registrar page). Then, you will need to set up name servers on your VPS so these name servers match.

But what is it for? If I can simply just add the VPS IP address on the "A" records of each domain why would I need to setup a nameserver?

NS is for full, better control and then you don't need to set an A record for all the purposes separately if you want to create say a mail id or a sub-domain in the same server, it can be done within the server only.

As said before, you can use your domain registrars DNS servers. Just point it to your server. Using Dynadot you will need to use * for wildcard pointing.
