Optimize or Get a new server.. ? Help

Hello.

Past couple of days i been wanting to get a new server to put my websites and keep the i7 for Flash Streaming n uploading.

But when i did the cash analysis.. i rather make due with what i got at the moment..

I considered using nginx .. but not sure about it

My main server
i7 2.67x4 Ghz | 12GB RAM | 2x 1.5TB | 1Gbit/5TB

Then again i think its quite sufficient to do the job....

The only problem i face 3-4 times a month is a wave of ~ 1000 people ( + around a 100 already watching a high bitrate flash stream) it sometimes overloads the server, if not slow it down.

I'm kinda confused what to do..

Any advice would be appreciated!

P.S: Server is due for a reinstall in next days, currently using Plesk which is causing alot of problems when mass mailing 10K+ people ( about 4-5 times a month).
I'm considering using DA.

Its not the Servers problem , every big site has to face this..

I think you can split up the databases on different servers, Like get a quad core exclusive for some Videos which you think will get more hits like wise ,

Streaming is all live.

I make the most money on PPV days and if the site goes down for even 5 mins, its quite bad for business.

as i said before two servers isn't a option $$-wise
