Download Firefox.
Install addon named SeoQUAKE
Login to google, and set number of results to 100.
Allow SeoQUAKE to show bar in search results, and to show nofollow link in other color.
In google, search for your targetted keyword.
Sort results by the PR number of the page by clicking ? sign
Search where you can post your comment, on high PR, relevant website.
To get more High PR pages, use other links from comments to see where your competition is posting by typing in google:

link:http://competitor-domain-name.com

Always comment on relevant pages, with relevant comments. Start with PR3. Don't do more than 10 links daily. Never on pages that are nofollow, useless. In 3 weeks, you will see results.

That would be one way :)

Other than that, you can use footprints, to search certain type of web platform, or domain, for example:

site:.edu “/phpbb/”
“Powered by SMF”
Inurl:.edu “Powered by BlogEngine.NET 1.4.5.0?

etc...

Thank you, your information is very important, though sometimes not very helpful backlinks

Best regards.

I also recommend you to build some brand links. Brand links are simply backlinks with you URL as anchor. Especially for websites that just are a few months old. Let me know if I can help!
