Thread moved to the Hosting Discussion forum, please post the thread in the right forum next time.

P.S. You need these things:

  • Domain
  • Server(s)
  • Billing Script

  • Domain
    • Try to find a 'short and easy' to remember domain name or simple use something like your tag name craphosting.com crapkinghosting.com (Kidding, but you get the idea with adding the word hosts or hosting.)
  • Server
    • People might take you seriously if you have your own dedicated server, but if you don't have much money, you can find a reseller on this forum or consider a VPS; make sure you have some kind of 'Control Panel', I recommend cPanel.
  • Billing Script
    • This is the most important thing, Create plans, promotions and setup automated billing to manage all your clients. I recommend WHMCS; Again if you don't have much money, you can use http://licensepal.com for a cheaper WHMCS license. This also has a support ticket system.
    • If you want to offer live support, you can find paid addons, might be one free for WHMCS, but they're not as good. I recommend using LiveZilla (FREE) or Kayako Live Response (Not FREE)

You're also going to need a design; If you can design, plus one for you! and if not, hire someone to design a unquie template - so it doesn't make you look like you just copied someone elses work by simpling downloading a design and/or purchased a template.

Simple way is too just buy a design from http://themeforest.net - If you're unsure how to 'code' then maybe consider buying a WordPress Hosting theme;

I don't know how much money you have; but either way you're going to have to do some investing to make money and if you don't have much knowledge then I don't know why you would want to start a hosting company.

Not trying to mess the OP's plans and all that, but yea - I agree.

This will definitely go south unless you have a proffesional server admin working 24x7 to respond to tickets etc.

Best of luck!

Ryan

First thing you want to do [which will take decent amount of time investment] is starting learning networks, linux systems and administrations.

Because, even if you start with a reseller plan without any tech knowledge, there would be a lot of instances your host will go down and you would not know what to argue and they will keep beating around the bush.

i would have to agree with the others here,if you have little to no knowledge of hosting (as i do not) you better stay away from the webhosting game,otherwise you are going to run into all kinds of problems. Its not like just start a webhost and watch the cash roll in,its alot of work 24/7/365

I wouldn't agree here. He doesn't need to have much knowledge if he has $$$$$ to hire the right people.

True but there are already many...and I really mean MANY webhosts out there. Some are making it pretty well and some stranded. If you don't know anything yet then it's pretty hard. Even with paid personnel. What if they, cause he doesn't know anything, scam him? Just me 2 cents though.

Well, the world is a cruel place.

Totally agree here, I'd honestly recommend you, no offense, if you don't have any knowledge about this business, etc. Spare yourself the money/time because there's too much competition for newbies like you to survive...

Take this as advice, please... :(

thank for those advices....but i do own dedicated server just for sitting there so i decide to run a hosting business...please give me advices how to run hosting...it a windows server...can i run cpanel separately on windows server...

If you're inclined to do so and you're going to run a Windows Server and want cPanel - You're going to need Enkompass.

Configuring Enkompass seems a lot more work whereas Linux it's simply easy;
Install IIS, Setup on a Domain, Install a lot of extra's before installing Enkompas; (Tried the beta)

http://www.cpanel.net/windows/overview.html

If you're considering this and most data centers don't offer Enkompass yet, so you might have to purchase a license from cPanel directly or http://www.buycpanel.com/ - Usually instant.

Minimum 500 accounts should be fine.

If you're going to get a separate server, I would consider going with Linux, CentOS 5.x x64 and use cPanel.

What is your site topic? If your site contents is good and have much traffic, you may consider to buy a VPS instead of shared hosting.
