Before I start my little rant, here's what I would rate some of the site aspects:
Setup time: 5/5 - My server was setup pretty much right after I ordered. NOTE: This does not mean I could use my service then..
Support: 0/5 - Their support does not even deserve a rating (see below).
Service Quality: 2/5 - Speeds were OK, but not great (10MB/s down on a 1Gbit/s server) | Reaction time wasn't bad, but it wasn't good for being a few states away from my ISP.
Now for my more detailed review:
The setup time was the only good thing I can say about IonVM. They had my details to me within five minutes after my time of purchase. This impressed me, however it gave
me the false impression that this company was going to be a long-term one for me. I used my SolusVM login details on their panel, and saw my server was offline. No problem right? Just hit the boot button? Wrong. I hit the boot button and it remained offline. I tried re-installing the operating system to see if it was just a corrupt deployment.. nothing. I made a support ticket and got a reply in under thirty minutes saying they have received my issue and will update me with details. This gave me another false impression. Wow, this support is really good I thought, they got my ticket responded to in a few minutes after I created it. Wrong again. After the reply from the staff member (Tom) saying my issue was received, I did not hear from them again. I responded asking for a status update a few hours later.. No response. I replied again asking if they couldn't just vzctl start my server through the node (as I used to work for a hosting company, this would allow the operator to view any obvious errors), still no response. It wasn't until another few hours later that my server suddenly came online, so I figured everything was okay, and closed the ticket myself (I never did get a response).
I got into my server, and the first thing I did was a cachefly speed test. I was disappointed to see it only was downloading at 10MB/s (maximum). I ignored the speeds and proceeded to set up my server regardless. I had finished installing Java, MySQL server and client, phpmyadmin, etc when I decided to enquire about an IPv6 address (which they advertise on the site). I got a response (again from Tom) saying he will forward this to an admin to assist me. I can't see why an admin would need to deal with such a simple request, as it is literally just a few clicks in SolusVM, but whatever. Hours passed, and I didn't get a reply, so I just went to sleep. Today I woke up and I timed out of billing over night. When I went to login, my passwords weren't working. I made a ticket as a guest asking for assistance, and received a reply (by David I believe?) saying he has changed the department to assist further. About 20 hours later.. no response.
I just emailed them asking for a refund of my service, as their support is unacceptable. I am a patient person, but to take 20+ hours to fix a VERY SIMPLE issue is rediculous.
Well, that's my essay.. I mean review, overall I would NOT recommend this company. If in the occasion you do need help, you will really have to fight to get it.
