laptop ram help

laptop originally had 1 gb ram..

added one more so = 2Gb ram

task manager only use old 1 gb ram

windows vista

compaq presario v6000

please help

could be anything...

is ram to same specs as the other?

is the ram seated properly?

check those first and give me some more info if you can.
 
How many total slots you have on the motherboard? Because you might need to insert CREAM in the empty slot. BTW, if you didn't know the CREAM is a FAKE RAM stick.
 
ok first of all, get rid of vista, replace it with 7, or go back to xp.

Now, you could try the following: Start->Run-> type in msconfig -> boot tab -> advanced options -> check the maximum memory box and set it to 2000
reboot

When you put in the ram did the computer bios say the configuration has recently changed and more ram was found ?

If not then it is not installed correctly some older laptops can not run more than 1 GB of ram.
If you have two pin slots it could be for 512MB a piece possibly
 
srry went to grab a bite :P

vista had many problems with task manager reporting incorrect memory data.
to view your real memory info do the following.

start-run-type perfmon- click action - resource monitor - memory tab

that should show ure correct data... if not then i am out of options..

let us know how it went..
