Has anybody done a background check on it?

that is blacklisted by SpamHaus:

"as being assigned to, being under the control of, or being otherwise connected with a known spam operation listed on the ROKSO database as: Rustelekom":

Keycaptcha is banned in Joomla from April, 2011:

Twitter account
was suspended and twitter is now blocking its
Compare them with vs. google search results by "keycaptcha site:twitter.com"
which reflect pre-suspension-blocking situation cached by google

1. KeyCAPTCHA website has IP 91.205.43.48
This IP is provided by our DDoS stable hosting provider Dragonara.Net.
Unfortunatelly this IP is also included in black list of SpamHaus.
But the DDoS protection is more important for our service. Moreover there is no unified opinion regarding SpamHaus service. You can verify this by googling http://www.google.com/search?q=stop+SpamHaus

2. The penalty period of KeyCAPTCHA plugin for Joomla has expired.
And KeyCAPTCHA team has sent all required info to Joomla team.
Now we are waiting for unblocking our Joomla account.
Our plugin is published on such popular CMSs' websites as WordPress, vBulletin, phpBB, Drupal, SMF, IP.Board

3. Our twitter account has been stolen. And we are in process to get it back.

Yeaah, I've read many posts that ppl spend their free time making dozens of registrations from the love to the process of passing puzzles.

If to speak seriously, I would not trust my webresources (forums, blog comments, etc.) and install on them backdoors to external online services whose creators are unidentifiable and untraceable.
KeyCAPTCHA operated first under the title of fake Russia-based Joint Stock ITNP company. Now under US-based Mersane, still from Russia
 
Anyway,
Due to their suspicious service I'd advise everyone NOT to use KeyCAPTCHA. They may seem reliable, but one of our members provided us with enough info that proves that they're not just a group of developers.

If you wish to continue using their captcha, feel free to do so but don't create threads here if something bad happens to your Website!
