I am glad to announce that India has become the 5th country in the world to have its own symbol, or an identification. For instance, like a $, for a dollar. Go through the link below to watch the symbol of a Rupee.

yup, its a great news and good to see atleast some efforts are made by the government.

To be honest, its Reserve Bank of India and not government lolz. But yea good to see!

This'll fail hard in unicode.

It'll take years for everyone to implement, so I guess you won't see it on the net for a while.

i think you are wrong JmZ.....

because a hardware manufacturing company has already annoucned to launch a keyboard with its sign in few days, which willc ost around 300 to 400.

Sadly, indian government is not going to use it on our currency notes. Do you know the reason why? because no currency has it except euro.. how shitty is that?

Its a waste of time and money, that's the real reason. The government just cba with the hassle since they would need to overhaul each and every note.

It looks good though imo

I like it. :) Ashu, when you see the symbolical meaning of it you will like it. :) (google it)

@ JmZ: It won't fail. Btw it is expected to be accepted internationally in three months time according to the newspapers.

It's a pity, I found out about this competition a bit later otherwise I also would have sent an entry. :/

Btw the new symbol looks more like this:

It's not necessary to have one raflamo. Any government can make it when they want it, I guess. And it's never late. ;)

The symbol is really cool, given you know what it signifies.
And I don't think any country can make its own as it requires international recognition, or else every other country would have one by now :P

@axxo786 : No. It was designed by a professor of IIT Bombay, a genius no doubt :)
