In showthread, a box appears showing you the current status of the thread with info such as the date it was set and who set it, as well as previous states and who set those at what times (a history/log). It also has the dropdown of thread status options to set the status.
In forumdisplay, the thread title is highlighted with a special color depending on the current thread status as well as the thread status in brackets

Very important :
In all pages of the forum, at the top of the page under the header, there is a 'bar' that contains stats such as the number of threads, posts, users, attachments, etc. awaiting moderation. It also includes the number of reports that are unanswered and the number unfulfilled.
If there is something important that needs attending to (report unanswered for example) the bar will highlight in RED to catch the moderator's attention.
