ok i admit i have learned how to download and open files lol, but to be honest thats basic and we all know how. Learned nothing i can progress with

He was probably been in the scene when most of us were still in our Mum's Va jay jay's.

ftp/fxp is way more fun

ftp is the old school warez.. if you know how to use a ftp client for a server (like Filezilla,FlashFXP,CuteFTP) then you can go on IRC and there are some great channels ya can find people sharing either there personal ftp (using a client link bpftp server to share file on there own hdd) or pubs (scanned ftps,tagged and filled with various content)

a good channel to start ya out lol

when entering type !dlist .. it will send you a list of a few hundred pub ftps with content on them,not all are great from there tho,research it a bit using google and there are some awesome channels
