Basically I sell on eBay but got rather annoyed with their fees and put up an auction site that has no fees what-so-ever.

The problem being, since I'm not taking a percentage, I really don't know how to monetize it other than ad banners but since I get repeat visitors I don't think Google is going to keep paying very well. Right now they do, it's more than a dollar per click, but the click through rate isn't super fabulous and I do worry a bit about Google's tales of almost randomly banning sites.

Why not just take a percentage? Well I figure there's nothing enticing people off other sites if I take a percentage. There's a few other sites as low as 3%, I guess I could do 1% or something but more than that wouldn't really work in my opinion.

So yeah, any ideas how to make money?

You could create a toolbar that will give users direct access to the important parts of your website.

Is great for that. They also have an API which means you can customize it very well. They do also pay for active users but the rate isn't that great.

Additionally they have an app market where you can add ready made applications to your toolbar. Some of them actually pay you as well (via conduit).

so depending on how many visitors and registered users you have this might be a way to generate a little bit of money. This won't make you rich though.

If you can, it would be great to create advertising banners. If you can make it targeted so that certain categories of auctions will see a banner related to that category ( though don't advertise items that are being auctioned though)
