Yes, you need to specify in the userfield that its a text box, that way it will keep its formatting.
I think WJ use a regular expression for it to, just to keep it tidy. everything else (including making it a link, etc) is done in postbit(_legacy in WJ case).
You can use the vB variable anyway you like.
