How to count downloads

Let's say I have a file on http://abc.com/xyz.zip

I want to know how many times that xyz.zip file has been downloaded.

Any idea ?

I simply uploaded a file in root of my site and I need to know how many times its being downloaded. Even if someone types that download URL in his download manager, it should be counted.
