How relevant is the firewall as a service or using the built-in OS firewall is sufficient for most scenarios?

For customers, it could be appealing as it offers simplified management and scaling without the need for maintaining physical hardware. Providers might see it as a great way to offer flexible, cloud-based security solutions while reducing overhead. However, customers might raise concerns about performance, control, or integration with existing infrastructure.

For small setups or personal servers, the built-in OS firewall (like iptables) is usually enough — it’s simple and does the job for basic protection. But if you’re managing multiple servers, working in the cloud, or need advanced features like DDoS protection or centralized rules, Firewall as a Service (FWaaS) is a much better fit. It’s scalable, modern, and saves you from juggling local configs. From what I’ve seen, customers love FWaaS for its ease of use and reliability, but if your needs are modest, an OS firewall can still work just fine.

Firewall as a service, like something that sits in front e.g. Cloudflare, DDoS-Guard, etc? These are always wanted if you can actually handle the load. A basic WAF service isn't going to be too desirable.

It would be interesting to hear what customers and providers think about firewall as a service.
Well, if you want DDoS Protection in your Network, we can provide it.

Check and see.
Free is only Bunny and Cloudflare free plan for WAF.

Honestly, for most basic setups, the built-in OS firewall does the job just fine—as long as it’s properly configured. It’s lightweight and gives enough control for typical use cases.

But if you're working with a larger or more complex environment—like apps spread across multiple servers or regions—Firewall-as-a-Service starts to make more sense. Especially if you want stuff like easier rule management, DDoS protection, or just less manual upkeep.

So yeah, the OS firewall is enough in many cases, but FWaaS can save time and add extra layers when things start to scale.

An external firewall always help, but nowadays you can optimize and secure your server with different softwares like imunify360 and configure its firewall rules to get more protection, but against a serious attack, you always need a good external firewall.
