Hello friends, I have a small idea to enforce throughout the web hosting forums.

The rule in general would basically make it to where members can not message others about there hosting services.

Example: A member that does not have a lot of knowledge about web hosting creates a thread asking for suggestions.

This thread may contain 3-4 replies with a few suggestions, Now lets say a member here that is a ub3r noob comes along sends a pm to this member requesting suggestions and says things such as. "My host is the best, I can give you unlimited for 99 cents etc etc.

Then two weeks down the road this ub3r noob ends up leaving the world wide web leaving the guy that was requesting suggestions in the first place up shit creek with no backups.

You guys get what i mean?
I know it may not get enforced, But its one of the few rules id love to see be enforced.

This would cut down on bs threads quite a bit i believe.

The rule its self is an excellent idea.

But i think it would be hard to moderate, Moderators can't just go through peoples pm's and see who is breaking the rule. There are all kinds of privacy implications with doing that. And (no offence) but a lot of the uber noobs i doubt will even read the rules and still complain when they get scammed. Can't see much wrong with adding it though.

True, You do have a valid point.

How ever it should at-least be enforced on the forums,
And possibly even another rule or somthing of the sort telling users to beware of PM's from web host that self advertise.

Kind of like we have this warning.

"Buyers beware of web host approaching you via PM, We recommend you do your research"

tbh i was only thinking about this the other day.

The rule saying you cannot recommend your own host is kinda pointless if those people can just send a PM to the person looking for advice.

So ye, i agree.

There are even 'companies' (aka a couple of noob kids) who have the guts in harvesting email addresses from the profile pages and then use them for massive spamming.

One of those is webserverz.

Even though I reported it, nobody is taken action, so I guess mods and admins even care less about companies or individuals who spam by PM.

Can't be properly enforced in my view. There is a vBulletin Mod that definitely allows you to sniff through members PMs but I totally wouldn't like it as it breaks off the "private"ness of the message. Something better would be to warn the members properly by adapting methods like banners in the hosting sections that way they can be told not to respond to such PMs or do a good research at first before dealing with a host via PM.

Good suggestion BTW. :)
