So ive decided to setup a home server cabinent for personal usage instead of renting out servers etc for storage ie movies, music etc..

I do a lot of streaming at my house as i have a theater room and i am looking to expand my setup to where i can just stream moving off the server basically.

I know internally i don't have to require a internet connection to do this but any way i have 50mb down avg 5mbps, 5mb avg 2mbps up link.

Im looking at a 15U cabinent

Ive offered $150 for it and the owner will go for it,
As far as the servers not to worried about picking those up,

My router/switch/modem is all Cisco.

So how would you set things up ?

I know the direction i plan on taking i just want to see what you guys would do.

one of the 1U servers will be using basically as a vm node for testing/production for me and a few buddies of mine

another 1u for movies and so on

well dude it's easy as pee power supplies and cooling is your biggest problem in summer , also too much uploading speed means better server i think , the software and stuff like that is not a thing .. you can install centos on your server and enjoy the rest of installing apache, php , your scripts, whatever you want you just make sure cooling, power, uploading speed is enough then .. i assure you can make your own DC in your home ! :p

I'd never put in house servers on the open market tbh,

As far as cooling i honestly thought about putting the small rack in my closet that as a vent

Optionally you can just get a wireless or wired nas and use a media player to stream your content. Many of our local customers do this. We are in Houston btw :P. There are some pretty great media centers out there.
