Help Optimized Apache

I need to optimize apache for some load.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 2.33 GHz 4MB
2GB RAM

Don't ask me to invest more in server, i'm cleaned out had to get new servers stat after UFC incident.

currently i have the default config.

Expected User Load , 200-400 active users (50-125members included)
High Load 1000-3000 on Nov 6.

if you don't want to go through the pain of tuning apache, give nginx a shot, it can easily handle 1k users without any problem on that server .

id do nginx + php-fpm + apc/xcache. Should sort it out.
