May be the cd u have is not with SATA drivers, or the cd is corrupt with missing drivers and stuff.

I suggest get a new iso and burn it onto a cd or get a genuine copy :)

Its not the SATA driver, if it were then you wouldnt be able to see your HD when you select the drive to install it on.

Try putting the HD through the chkdisk /F check - you might have unmarked bad clusters.

@ Jay oh yeah forgot that lool.

Well the other thing also could be the hardware installed, try removing other hardwares that are in the cpu like external sound drivers, external modems and stuff that can also be conflicting..

1. On start up , enter BIOS

2. Expand the "Drives" section

3. Go to "SATA Operation"

4. Change this from "RAID Auto/AHCI" to "RAID Auto/ATA"

see if that works.

How is it the ram when the computer is telling him its the hard drive ?

Test the RAM with memtest but it may not show errors and still be damaged. Its better to replace the RAM.
bad RAM is almost always the cause for errors during windows install.

Jayfella is right about its not the hard drive because windows XP Dont come with SATA Drivers and thus it will not find your hard drive, it will just find usbs, floppy etc.

Try taking the a ram stick out and testing each one individually.. if you have to sticks...

Also remove all hardware that is not needed during the installation such as graphics card, sound card, usb's disc etc etc.
