I had no idea that India and Pakistan were, initially, one single country.

Even Bangladesh was a part of India. Then it was given to Pakistan and renamed as 'East Pakistan'. The people of Bangladesh then again fought to be free from the Pakistan Govt. and to be declared an independent nation themselves. :p
