It's not all about downloads, only forum that provides good stuff is WarezBB, and everyone knows that. There is no doubt in it, forums these days have same stuff. So you're not offering anything different.

If you want more user registrations make it allowed for everyone. First time that visitor views the site is most important. He will instant like the forum, or instant dislike it. So there is no difference.
 
Yeah I know that mrsandvik :/. I'm asking which one you think is best. Everyone has their different opinions not everyone think w-bb offers the best content. Some people choice other sites like katz, cyberwarez etcc.

But different people, different opinions. So but to you which one would oyu do?
 
I think open to all, or they will go to another site anyways. Offer something for them to sign up and they will register. I find open sites are more successful.
 
What I think you should do is have it open. You'll get respect and traffic from Google, DDL sites and build up some traffic. After you've got to a point where you have decent traffic and a bit of a community you then cross your fingers and make your board registered only.

You'll still get organic and DDL traffic while they figure out what you've done and hopefully your community will continue to build. If you start out with just registered only you'll find it near impossible to grow initially. That's personally the way I'd go about it.

Is this for FreshWap? Whatever you do don't make freshwap registered only as it will crash and burn although I'm sure kof knows this. Your traffic is mostly organic and you've a huge bounce rate so it would be a disaster. You need a low bounce rate and a large amount of direct returning traffic before going private if it has any chance of working.

EDIT: although on second though's if you keep the portal open and the forum private/registered only it could work as it's your portal that get's most of the organic traffic and has the high bounce rate. It would probably suit the forum and work.
 
completely agree with mr happy and and i believe that myth your forum get good organic traffic may be one of the forum thats get more organic traffic if u do a search on google im sure either on first page or second page ull find the stuff on freshwap forums!
 
Thanks for the reply Mr Happy, and its not for freshwap, as we get enough registers a day. Just was wondering about some of you'll webmasters opinion.

Yeah this is the way I'm going with my discussion forum. If they like what they see or if they wanna participate, they'll register.
