Hey,

Im thinking of starting to work on a new web host to run alongside DiamondSRV.org.

The host will be totally free hosting, no paid plans. There is currently no hosts on WJ like this, thats why i wanna do it.

The hosting will have a good amount of disk space, and bandwidth and will include support etc.

I have a few questions though ;)

How much disk space and bandwidth should the free service offer?
Would you sign up? Once its launched (sometime soon) would you sign up, and use the hosting?
What limits should the hosting have, like addon domains, etc.

Free Web Hosting should never allow more than 1 domain. And of course, it shouldn't have much bandwidth or space either, free hosting should be offered to non-profit sites. And those with the low traffic, max 1,000 UV per month.

And if your idea was to have it under that name "FreeHost4me", don't. It's really unprofessional, and I know that no one would think it's serious. As you want to get big, and you can't get big with such name. If you're still a student, you can tell to your teachers and friends about the hosting service. Many of the professors would like to have their own Website, where they could write about something they like, but they can't as it would be additional cost.

Rent the server from some USA DC, such as "ThePlanet.com", as it has best uptime, and even HostGator's servers are located in one of their DC's.

Rules should be quite simple, if site gets more than 1,000 UV and bigger bandwidth than 3GB it should automatically email the account holder to purchase an additional plan. It shouldn't be expensive, it would be max 2$. But note that I'm only talking about the hosting here, you still need to think of what will you do with the domains, either get some domain reseller account to have cheaper domains, or register some short domain with extension from some small country. Something short and that's easy to remember, e.g. "vai.cd", "mot.bz", anything you can think of.

This could work, easily. There would be no profit from it for you, but your site would end up in those "Free Web Hosting Directories", and when your site ends up there, you know you made it.

#1. You can put "DiamondSRV.org" link on this free Web Hosting site, and write something like "Premium Hosting Solutions".

#2. You can advertise it anywhere, as it's totally family safe, and it's not breaking any rules.

I really can't think of name for the site .. But I guess I'd go for: "free.gg", or "free.anytld", you don't need SEO for this, even if you do. You wouldn't be able to compete with existing free web hosts.

".gg" costs 159$ per year. You can check other TLD's at "101Domain.com". Good thing about "free.anytld" is that you can use that domain for hosting customers, "theirname.free.gg". Site wouldn't fail I guess..

Adding 4 was popular in the late 90s. Looks ridiculous now.

No more then one addon domain
50-100gb bandwidth (more will attract bad clients)
2-5gb space

There is also a reason nobody does this here. I did it to help people around here for a while. Quickly learned Wj has a lot of losers around that will agree not to use some scripts I said were not allowed, then hammer the server. When you cancel their account, you get major broken English emails.

Also, you may think having them manually apply showing you the site they will host will help. It won't at all.

I strongly recommend you to not start this... Even if you started please stop. Stupid people here (yeah there are lots of members here at wj.) will abuse your server. It will end in a big orgy. Server fucked. Talking with experience.
 
It depends on who you are providing it for....here? Forget it.

I have one that I do but it is for small churches...Christian people....and I do more than just give them free space and free bandwidth too.
