Am looking to start up my own community website on my vps and i am looking to see what the best free forum software is. I am looking to purchase a license to one eventually but i am low on funds atm so i need to use a free one i don't like smf all that much what do you guys think?

go with either PHPBB or MyBB


MyBB is like a free version of vBulletin (very Similiar)

Use MyBB. It's cool enough for a big site, but if you want to convert it later to vb, xenforo or ipb, that's very-very easy with mybb. I have tried the conversion on localhost with ipb, and everything works.

Well... there's many mods, but it's hard to find a good theme. )

There's 250+ mods for the newest, 1.6.x version (most of mybb 1.4 plugins works with 1.6 too), and themes, etc.
Most of things downloadable from the official site.

lol yea =D i might go with phpbb i remember using that a few years ago lol :P its not bad vbulletin is my fav but i cant afford it
