The App which has only being available on iOS since it's launch allows users to add filters to photos and share them with friends. Last week it launched for the first time on Android and got over a million downloads in less than 24 hours.
Due to it's simplicity and ease of use the app has started growing it's active community. Google and Facebook have tried several times in the past to purchase the company as it's far more popular for sharing photos than either of Facebook or Google's own social Apps.
After several failed attempts Facebook raised it's offer to the irresistible offer of One Billion Dollars.
In a post on his timeline Mark Zuckerberg stated Instagram will remain a standalone company but now have access to Facebook's large Engineer and Infrastructure to help the company grow further.
