>(no fake raid, but real hardware RAID)

Implying that software RAID is "fake"?
Says a lot about you and your company.

Let me explain to you what Fake RAID is.

Hardware RAID - Hardware RAID controllers usually are sold as separate cards which you plug into your server. They do NOT require your computer processor resources , the BIOS can boot from them, and tighter integration with the device driver may offer better error handling.

They are simply multi-channel disk controllers combined with special BIOS configuration options and software drivers to assist the OS in performing RAID operations. This gives the appearance of a hardware RAID, because the RAID configuration is done using a BIOS setup screen, and the operating system can be booted from the RAID

Software RAID - Software RAID are provided by operating system itself, all calculation happen on computer CPU.

Here is good article which may offer better explanation on Fake RAID subject: http://www.servethehome.com/difference-hardware-raid-hbas-software-raid/
