Aparently, this is true;

It has been reported by AFP that the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) have voted overwhelmingly in favor of a new proposal, at a meeting in Singapore, which will allow for the creation of new website domain suffixes by private companies.

This will see a large number of companies now able to create domain extensions branded by their own brand.

But hey, if you want to grab your own domain extension, just note that it will not come cheap! Just by filing an application, you will need to fork out $185,000! This fee does not include the annual $25,000 renewal fee.

So, if you do have some cash lying around and want your own domain extension, be sure to act fast and submit your application today!

Now, I personally won't be buying myself an domain extension, but I do assume companies who do, wondering if they will be available for 'public registration' or private to each of the respected companies.

The following companies, I could see ordering their own domain extension.

Yahoo .yahoo
Microsoft .microsoft
AOL .aol
AT&T .att (AT&T customers, might get new e-mails such as name@mail.att or something)
Comcast .comcast
Charter .charter
Google .google

Some rich person that likes warez should buy .warez and open for public. Restriction, No Law Enforcement can't touch it, Lol?

Not all ISPs, some are more less broke, so they might not all get their own extension.
