CNAME record

I want to add a cname record with the following
domain : example.com
subdomain: server1

first I want to point the subdomain server1 to remote IP address and need to set up the following CNAME record.

server1 IN A 66.55.33.66 (remoteIP)
example.com. IN CNAME server1
=========

I have tried this via WHM, but it gave me an error. Please let me know if its possible or not

If godaddy.add A record,
Host Name: server1
Points to IP Address : 66.55.33.66

done.try this on browser: server1.example.com

Once you have added the a record to the main domain add @ as the destination for the cname so it uses the main record

Did it work? provided there is no A record for example.com
