Its not really about gaining direct traffic. As I have said in previous posts its mainly to try and help you rise up the search engine result pages for the keywords you are targeting which will in turn bring you more traffic from google etc, its a slow process that takes time but is well worth doing.

If you just want fast traffic I would suggest using adwords etc and paying $0.10 a visit or what not. This will help you gain traffic in the long term but you won't see instant results.
 
Alexa ranking is based on the amount of visits to your site by people using the alexa toolbar.

As I said this is mainly designed to help you rank higher for keywords your targeting. For example when somebody types "warez downloads" into google search. If you have many links to your site from other sites with the anchor text "warez downloads" your site will more than likely rank higher for that keyword than it would without all the backlinks.

The number of backlinks to a site also play a factor when google are working out pagerank and other things.
 
I took a review copy for 20k links got 27k in total checked them all out at least 95% were all found and working so thats good.

Some are of no-follow links but all in all this is good and most likely will help in backlinking.
