This week has been quite a ride for Wikileaks, and for the herd of journalists that have been reporting on the site’s hosting difficulties. At times it almost seemed that the technology behind the site was becoming more interesting than the actual content being released, much to the delight of the US Government. Between the DDoS attacks and the DNS-server bans, it almost went unnoticed that a leaked cable from the Spanish embassy showed that the United States wrote Spain’s proposed copyright law. An interesting revelation to say the least.
Just a few days ago Wikileaks was ‘saved‘ by the Swiss Pirate Party, who helped the whistleblower site after they were kicked out by their nameserver provider. Today, a coalition of Pirate Parties is stepping up to host a worldwide network of mirror sites for Wikileaks, making it virtually impossible to shut the operation down.
“Pirate Parties from around the world, including the Pirate Party UK, today reaffirmed their commitment to whistleblowing worldwide. Concerned about freedom of information, opinion and press, the Pirate Parties have decided in a joint resolution to make Wikileaks available on a worldwide mirroring infrastructure,†the UK Pirate Party just announced.
“The mirrors will guarantee that the release of US diplomatic cables can continue and previous publications will stay online,†the Pirates add, explaining that the new solution is not just redirecting people to one central server, but actually hosting files on different servers scattered around the globe.
The initiative is supported by the Pirate Parties of the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, Luxembourg, Romania, Russia, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. With the added mirrors they hope to keep Wikileaks online and fight the political and technological pressure the US Government has put on the hosting providers of site.
Over the last week many hosts have abandoned Wikileaks due to the controversial nature of the site and the continued DDoS attacks.
Interestingly enough, the US Government hasn’t gone after the Wikileaks domain yet. This should be an easy job considering the seizure of Torrent-Finder last week, and the fact that the US Government is the copyright holder of the leaked cables.
Even if the .org domain is seized, Wikileaks is not going away since there are still plenty of backup domains around which can be used.

NOW ITS YOUR TURN TO HELP WIKILEAKS
If you have a unix-based server which is hosting a website on the Internet and you want to give wikileaks some of your hosting resources, you can help!
Please follow the following instructions:

  • Setup an account where we can upload files using RSYNC+SSH (preferred) or FTP
  • Put our SSH key in this server or create an FTP account
  • Create a virtual host in your web server, which, for example, can be wikileaks.yourdomain.com
  • send the IP address of your server to us, and the path where we should upload the content. (just fill the form below)
We will take care of all the rest: Sending pages to your server, updating them each time data is released, maintaining a list of such mirrors. If your server is down or if the account don't work anymore, we will automatically remove your server from the list.
Our content is only html/css/javascript/png static files, so we don't require much resource to host it.
The complete website should not take more than a couple of GB at the moment (with base website and cablegate data).

no. i dont waste my time reading about leaks of some governments info that ends up being old or pointless. i have better things to do :P

Well not many ppl would support this because in turn you would get fucked as well.
But hey, I might be wrong since it is alrdy mirrored on 350+ sites.

We should help them as they are helping the world to know about everything by the way on the current time Wikileaks have became a big threats to every country and so no one is allowing them to start there hosts governments are kicking out there hosts from their countries and on my opinion I think no body wants to get in trouble with helping them.

no.. he means they should get their own cloud, meaning their own servers and such -- and not asking for hand outs.

they were using amazon.... they don't own amazon... <_<

exactly. i pay decent money for my shit why should i give them part of it. its like saying donate but in a gay way.
