How to stop autoposters from posting in my forum

I use IPB 3.1.4

Is there a way to ban autoposter from posting ?

If there are no ways is there a way to limit autoposter connections to say 2 or 3 every hour ??

Can anyone help as everyday on some particular time my forum goes offline due to too much mysql load ( autoposters raping my forum )

Any help is highly appreciated

The short answer on that is sorry to say...no! As long people are able to register and post on your forum you will never be able to automatic fully stop either autoposters, spammers and scammers etc.

Im not sure how much of the previous advices/tips and hints you actually tested and what was the outcome from that. Example: http://www.wjunction.com/showthread.php?t=89443

Checking logs are also something you should start with if you havent already because that might give you a better view where this autoposters comes from. If its for example from the country Vietnam you might be forced to start IPban a big amount of IP range from there or even the whole country in the worst case.

Another advice/tip is that if you have normal active users that seam to interact with your forum and report, reply and general help out you should start consider make those people moderators as that will be a automatic help for yourself and you can start concentrate more on other things. You can also try to ask for help by making a staff request post here: http://www.wjunction.com/forumdisplay.php?f=23

Good luck...

Btw I sent you a pm. ;)

Set a maximum of post for x hours (group setting)
Upgrade to 3.2.1
Set a question at registration page that's hard for a bot to understand. (change question for example once a week) if failing they cant register.
Make a second question, math question or something.
Approve new accounts via admin cp only.

and so on....

Depending on the forum software you're using you can try finding an addon that makes user enter a captcha code before submitting a post.

I made a custom captcha page to slow them down at least.

And a mod that sets a minimum time between loading the posting page and then posting, again it doesn't stop them all but stops them hammering the server.

I made the mod thinking jay wouldn't bother with it as its custom mods for one forum, but he made a bypass quickly

At least it makes bots wait between posting instead of hammering the server

you could limit the number of threads a user can make between 6, or 10 or 24 hours, like warezforum.info and cyberwarez have, and then problem will be solved easy ..

jay cracked your captcha mod just like that?

& what do you mean it "makes them wait"

I'm interested as I run a IPB site myself!

why not block that user agent? or IP ban the user making posts constantly

for example just take a link of the suspected user a search in google, if you get similiar links at 25+ sites ,then BAN!

^^
Any captcha could've done that. Even Recatcha.
The downside is that, it drives away users.
That's why Captcha is not such a good solution.

User Agent is firefox browser. You'd block 90% of the traffic if you blocked firefox.

IP ban is not good either. Cashwhores have access to dynamic IP ranges as they use DSL connection.

My suggestion to block:

My suggestion to limit:
Admin CP > Members > Member Groups > Manage User Groups > Member > Edit Group > Forum > Restrictions > Limit Posts Per 24hrs > Max. 20 posts per 24 hrs until 0 approved posts. (Enter 0 or leave blank to not limit) > Complete Edit.

The captcha question is shown in a window when using MP5, I could change the mod but it probably blocks the worst of the apps.

I had huge load problems so I thought the auto poster apps load the posting page grab the form values then post within 1 second.
So i made a minimum time between loading the page and posting :)

Do you want to block them or just limit them?
I have ideas for both types. Reply and I'll help.

Limit them mostly as i know i cant block them to the whole as i have blocked few hundreds of ip ranges already which did stop to some extent but sometime i feel those blockage didn't have any effect as they easily use proxy to bypass them :facepalm:

since i used keyCaptcha, i forgot about bots :)
theoretically no bot can solve it, it's a little puzzle game, only humans can solve puzzles ;)

Even i use keycaptcha i am not bothered about people registering what i am bothered per tens ( close to 40 to 50) of autoposting bots are using to post at the same time
